A raised hand echoes the face’s double image, creating a composition that changes as the viewer looks through coloured filters. The print offers three encounters: the combined image seen with the naked eye, and the separate layers revealed through red and blue lenses.
Greek artist Insane51, also known as Stathis Tsavalias, developed his practice through graffiti before pursuing photorealism and the optical possibilities of overlapping images. His murals and editions invite viewers to take an active role in discovering what an image contains. Within the Seven Deadly Sins series, Pride brings this approach to a subject that can be read through the tension between outward appearance and the body beneath.
Published by Detroit’s 1XRUN in 2021, this nine-colour screenprint includes spot varnish on 310 gsm Somerset Satin paper. Measuring 60 × 60 cm, Emerald Room’s impression is numbered 80/125 and signed by the artist.
