Artworks
Created in 1957, this work reflects a transitional moment in Yokoi’s early abstraction, where geometric structure begins to emerge within a more open and active surface. Angular forms, including early diamond-like elements, are introduced but remain unstable, shifting in relation to surrounding color and line.
Broad passages of saturated color intersect with areas of darker density, creating a composition that balances movement and containment. The surface retains evidence of revision, with layered applications suggesting an evolving rather than fixed structure.
The work captures a period of active development, in which Yokoi begins to establish the formal vocabulary that would come to define her practice in the years that follow.
