Unexpected ochre transforms this pond into abstraction, where hand-painted lilies float like memory.

Water Music - 8 forms part of a rare offset lithographic series commissioned for the opening of the Allegro Hotel at the Kursaal in Bern. Each plate was hand etched by the artist and each impression was printed by Franz and Elaine Witter under the artist’s supervision and subsequently hand-painted by Teruko Yokoi, transforming the edition into a set of unique variants.
The series builds upon the artist’s earlier Water Lily studies of the late 1980s, extending her exploration of nature’s rhythm and reflection into a lyrical visual metaphor for sound and motion.

An unexpected golden ochre ground glows beneath floating pads and blossoms, punctuated by energetic speckles of paint. This hand-finished surface transforms the composition into something almost abstract, yet tethered to the memory of water lilies.
