Painted while Yokoi was living in Greenwich Village, From My Rear Window reflects her early immersion in the New York School. The composition is built from interlocking planes of red, white, olive, and black that suggest the fragmented geometry of the city viewed through a window. Drips, overlays, and abrupt breaks of color capture the improvisational language of Abstract Expressionism, yet the structure of the work conveys a clarity that sets Yokoi apart from her contemporaries. In this canvas, the artist translates the vitality of her urban environment into a painterly exploration of rhythm, space, and balance, establishing an early voice that bridged Japanese sensibility with the American avant-garde.
