This canvas from Yokoi’s celebrated Diamond series radiates with energy and balance. A glowing earthen red ground becomes the stage for sweeping gestures of white and black, punctuated by bursts of yellow, green, and blue that shimmer like fragments of light. At the center, the diamond form emerges and dissolves, suggesting both structure and flux, order and improvisation. Painted in Bern during a moment of growing acclaim, the work carries the vitality of Yokoi’s transcontinental journey, from her Minami Gallery exhibition in Tokyo to her invitation to the Kunsthalle Basel by Arnold Rudlinger. It is a painting alive with rhythm and color, a reflection of Yokoi’s ability to capture movement and memory within a single, resonant form.
